The second part of Digital Media I was the Generative Image Poster, comprised of 4 parts. Everything was done di-gitally and mainly using a dice, to make the patterns random. While working on this poster, I was able to learn good illust-rator knowledge and how mak-ing use of randomness can create a stunning composition.
Ex 1 - Conditionals and Sequence
For the first exercise, I had to create cell division variables in a 2" square into 4 parts. I then made the cell divisions either white or black and had them vary throughout a 10" square, containing 25 2" squares. For each composition of 25 squ-ares, I had my singular square patterns have 4 repeating loo-ks so that there is a sense of randomness, while still staying organized.
These are my 5 versions.
Exercise 2 - Conditionals and Chance Operations
Using a composition from the past exercise, I now had a ba-se composition and rolled a dice to see how I would chan-ge it. My variables when rolling the dice were
1 - Do Nothing
2 - Rotate 90 Right
3 - Rotate 90 Left
4 - Flip 180
5 - Replace White with Black AND Black with White
6 - Do Nothing
This exercise was pretty fun since we had to roll a dice, but became time consuming since we weren't using an online random number generator.
Exercise 3 - Conditionals and Chance Operations with New Variables
This was the same as the past exercise, but we could now add color and a texture. The variables for the compositions varied but were mostly similar to these
1 & 4 - Fill White with Pink / Blue / Texture
2 & 5 - Do Nothing
3 & 6 - Fill Black with Pink / Blue / Texture
It was great to be able to add color and an image to the random pattern compositions.
Exercise 4 - Generative Image Poster
While still being the same concept as the past exercises, this part was a 10x10 square composition. The past 3 exer-cises were 5x5 squares. Altho-ugh taking time to create, the control and randomness ma-kes the finished product great.
